Major CPS activities

Research

CPS has an extensive research programme, and conducts research on both independently chosen subjects and on projects commissioned by project funders. CPS research and analysis have enjoyed the attention of a range of decision-makers across the spectrum, and have exerted significant influence on policy debates.

Issues on which CPS has made an impact include the dynamics of South Africa’s political transition, development processes, regional government, democratic governance, civil society and democratisation in Africa.

Conferences and workshops

CPS regularly stages conferences and workshops where topical political and social issues are thoroughly analysed. These are attended by local and foreign academics, other analysts, and practising politicians. The proceedings are often published in book form.

CPS regards itself as a forum where contentious and critical issues could be debated and work shopped in a non-partisan fashion.

Publishing

The CPS publication programme comprises of research reports, analytical papers, policy briefings, newsletters, a governance review, books, and book-length volumes of conference proceedings, which are read by analysts and practitioners throughout South Africa and elsewhere in the world.

All CPS publications may be ordered directly from our publications list.
